Drawings on paper 12 by 16 inches.With these drawings in pencil and ballpoint, based on Giacometti's "Nu,""Les Yeux," "Nu assis," I started working on this series about my two cancers. What draws me to Giacometti's drawings and portraits is his technique of putting lines on the paper, continuously, almost nervously searching and seemingly never getting it right. To me the figures seem totally still and isolated within these lines-a recognizable feeling while I was being treated.

Giacometti's lines are pointed and spare.As if removing flesh from a frame altogether. The conditions you were through were corrosive. Un-fleshing? The stricken eyes behind the creasing lines in the facial sketch increasingly display the recession of flesh and the horror of it all. A spare sketch of serene eyes and face will complete the series -- when you are ready to do that. I like your courage.
